Two weeks after he was prohibited from attending a MotoGP test at the Circuit of The Americas, a track that he helped design, former World Champion Kevin Schwantz has been personally invited to attend the Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca by that track’s CEO/General Manager Gill Campbell.
Schwantz was at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca March 25 to serve as a guest instructor at one of Reg Pridmore’s CLASS Motorcycle Schools. Campbell approached Schwantz in the paddock and presented him with a hand-written personal invitation that read: “Kevin, You are cordially invited to attend the Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix. Appropriate credentials and hospitality will be provided. Gill Campbell”Schwantz happily posed for a photo with the invitation, which was posted to Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca’s Facebook page.

The Greater Atlanta Automotive Media Association (GAAMA) named the 2014 Mazda6 "Best New Vehicle" at the Atlanta International Auto Show.
GAAMA President Davis Adams said, "The new Mazda6 has a mix of all the right things for a great car: reliability, outstanding fuel efficiency, stunning design and affordable pricing. It's just what a car should be for drivers today."
Completely redesigned for 2014, Mazda6 starts at $20,8801 MSRP and features Mazda's ground-breaking all-new suite of SKYACTIV®1 technologies – engine, transmission, body and chassis – all working together to deliver outstanding driving performance and fuel efficiency. The SKYACTIV-Body and SKYACTIV-Chassis ensure that the vehicle structure is not only reinforced and quiet but also rigid and able to absorb impact. The SKYACTIV-Body is comprised of 61.0 percent high-tensile steel, creating a lighter, stronger body with superior handling while the SKYACTIV-Chassis weighs less than current Mazda platforms and includes a front strut suspension and a multi-link rear format along with an assortment of design changes.
"It is an honor to receive this award for the Mazda6," said Jim O'Sullivan, Mazda North American Operations' (MNAO) President and CEO. "With class-leading highway fuel economy of 38 mpg, the Mazda6 is not only fuel efficient, but stylish and fun to drive as well."
GAAMA was founded to further the professionalism of the automotive media, provide a forum for newsworthy people and products connected with the automotive industry and to bring together people whose activities are related to the field of automotive journalism, public relations and related fields for the mutual benefit of all parties.

Zoom-Zoom has never showcased wallflower tendencies, so why start now? When the all-new 2014 Mazda6 entered the competitive bread-and-butter world of the mid-size passenger car segment, the vehicle excelled in key consumer needs such as fuel economy, safety technology, performance and driving dynamics. And while bold lines and taut features were noticeably absent from its counterparts, the Mazda6 proudly wears its equally skin-deep beauty also on its sleeve. This unexpected focus on design and style has propelled the vehicle as a recently named finalist for the 2013 World Car Design of the Year Award.
Outlasting Renault, Land Rover and Volkswagen in the latest round of the voting, the 2014 Mazda6 will share the stage with the Aston Martin Vanquish and Jaguar F-Type at the New York International Auto Show where a winner will be announced during a press conference on March 28. With design the sole focus of this award, these unlikely real-world competitors are competitors nonetheless.
An evolution of the TAKERI Concept, Mazda's new mid-size features the brand's KODO "Soul of Motion" design language, which is inspired by the movement of animals in the wild—their ability to showcase power in its purest form combined with agile finesse. KODO's prominent personality, inside and out, easily distinguishes the Mazda6 from competitive people movers, whose personalities seem to have been relegated to match their prudish exteriors. The Mazda6 makes no excuses for its muscular manner nor does it need to. With pronounced sheet metal strokes, the vehicle evokes a controlled intensity, seemingly moving yet standing still. Not meant to be ignored, the stunning Mazda6 presents an uncommon but welcome appeal of emotion to the mid-size segment.
The World Car of the Year awards were inaugurated in 2003 to reflect the reality of the global marketplace as well as to recognize and reward automotive excellence on an international scale, and are intended to complement, not compete, with existing national and regional Car of the Year programs.
A jury of 66 top-level automotive journalists representing nearly every continent selects the finalists every year. For specific categories, such as Green Car and Design, a panel of experts in each field reviews each candidate and provides recommendations for the jurors. This year's design experts are Masatsugu Arimoto (Japan), Silvia Baruffaldi (Italy), Gernot Bracht (Germany), Sam Livingstone (UK) and Tom Matano (United States).
